Born on January 1, 1978 in Ottalam, Kerala, Vidya Balan is an Indian actress of the Bengali and Hindi languages. Although she has won countless citations and nominations from Filmfare Awards, her path to recognition by critics was not easy and smooth, to say the least.

Our featured Bollywood celebrity first appeared in the limelight as an image model for brands such as Surf, Excel, Pond's, Baja, etc. Soon she entered acting in in big screen in 2003 but suffered a string of unsuccessful projects until 2003.

Her breakthrough came through Pradeep Sarkar's musical drama, the Hindi movie "Parineeta", in 2005. Her role as Lalita was recognized by critics and she was nominated for Best Actress in the Filmfare Awards. From then on, Vidya Balan was offered more challenging roles, which honed her talent in acting.

In 2009, through the motion picture "Paa", she was universally recognized, by critics and moviegoers alike, as a Bollywood icon. Vidya has proved that she is way ahead of the plethora of Bollywood actresses who only have pretty faces and sexy bodies as their ticket to fame.
